Trundle Bush Tucker Day
Saturday 2nd September 2017
This annual event began as a small gathering at the back of the local hotel in 1987.
It has now become a well known story amongst
locals, a couple of men took part in a friendly bet, a challenge of
sorts, to see who could cook the best meal in a camp oven. For those of
you that aren’t familiar with bush tucker, the event continues to
celebrate bush cooking and food that is cooked by a campfire and with
minimal resources. Some of the dishes that have competed in the cooking competition
include Wattle Seed Plum Duff, Whole Barramundi, Opal Miner’s Damper,
Lemon Myrtle Roll with Quandong Compote, Aussie Coat of Arms and
Australian Macadamia Nut Brownie. For more information: www.trundlebushtuckerday.com
Tullamore Irish Festival
April 15, 16, 17, 2017
Every Easter the little town of Tullamore hosts an Irish Cultural extravaganza known as the Tullamore Irish Festival. It features some of the best Irish entertainment in Australia and gets around 1500 people through the gates.
Not bad for a little town of 200 people!
Easter Saturday, the festival’s main day, starts with the street parade which leads to the festival village. Food, drink and merchandise stalls accompany the entertainment by Irish musicians and dancers. 2016 is going to be huge with Damien Leith returning to the festival and on Good Friday there will be the Forever Dimond show which is a Neil Diamond tribute show. Children are catered for with games and activities. Competitions on the Saturday include children’s GreenArt, Wearing of the Green, the unique Tullamore Irish Hurdles and Irish tug o’ war.
